To assess current status of the water board with reference to institutional, technical, financial, citizen orientation, organizational capacity and service delivery to the poor related aspects.
BUILDING THE ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR URBAN CHANGE- NATIONAL MEDIA CONCLAVE ON URBAN WATER SUPPLY: PARTNER: USAID, FIRE(D) : MAY 2006
The principal objectives of this event was :
Present to media and opinion makers the benefits and costs of conversion from an intermittent supply to continuous supply – 24-hours a day, 7-days a week .
Review various common themes of water and sanitation reform across the country reach a broad consensus on the intended outcomes of a reform strategy, and analyze the pros and cons of these reform options.
Analyze the various models of private sector participation (including foreign partners) in water management and consider the risk matrix for various options.
How to protect the poor – analyzing mechanisms such lifeline tariffs, and how to structure tariffs to provide cross-subsidies for the poor, looking at willingness of poor to pay, etc.
Present and analyze national and international developments in urban water management, looking at innovative approaches adopted elsewhere to tackle similar problems, and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of these innovations, and their applicability to India’s cities.
The event was attended by 30 senior media professionals at the Editorial level, both from the print and electronic media. The event was very well received and it received wide media coverage.

MEDIA CONCLAVE FOR CONTINUOUS WATER SUPPLY: USAID, FIRE(D), WSP, SEPTEMBER 2006
A regional media event organized for media professionals of South India, drawn from print and electronic media. Over 50 senior media professionals participated , and the discussions centred on the entire gamut of urban water sector reforms , including the need of reform, experience of different cities across the country , international experiences, best practices.

CITY DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR 5 SMALL TOWNS OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH: PARTNER: URBAN DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF ARUNACHAL PRADESH: DECEMBER 06-MARCH 07
This initiative covered the entire spectrum of urban management issues in 5 small towns of Arunachal Pradesh : Namsai, Anini, Roing, Tezu and Hawai. The key focus of the project was to prepare a city development plan for financing under BSUP and IDSMT schemes of MOUD. For this purpose the following activities were undertaken under the project :
Multi stakeholder consultation for city visioning .
Preparation of sectoral visions and sectoral action plans .
Preparation of Investment plans and financing plans .
Reform action plans .
Urban planning and perspective planning with a perspective of 25 years .

SWATCH DELHI SWASTH DELHI- PARTNER : WATER AID INDIA, INDCARE TRUST : SEPTEMBER 2007 ONWARDS. PHASE 1: ONE YEAR. SCALE UP: THREE YEARS
This
project
involves
working
in
four
slum
settlements
of
Delhi
and
mobilizing
communities
for
improvement
of
basic
services
including
sanitation,
solid
waste
management,
water
supply.
The
project
uses
innovative
community
participation
techniques
for
managing
these
issues
at
the
community
level,
in
partnership
with
municipal
bodies
and
utility
service
providers.
It
also
involves
a
policy
research
on
the
gaps
in
basic
services
to
slum
dwellers
and
aims
to
bring
about
sustainable
policy
change
through
this
initiative.
The
project
has
completed
one
year
of
activity
and
there
has
been
considerable
progress
on
the
following
fronts
:
Baseline assessment survey completed at two levels: At the household level to capture demand side perceptions of service delivery and infrastructure, and at community level to capture supply side information on infrastructure .
Policy roundtables with GNCT of Delhi , MCD, NDMC, Delhi Jal Board
Formation of self help groups in all settlements
Project interventions: Improved water supply, community managed upgradation of community toilets, decentralized waste management using compost pits .
Policy outcomes: Pilot policy change for allowing shared group connections in slums as against a norm of public stand posts and tanker driven supplies .

Resource
Centre-Samajik
Suvidha
Kendra
at
R.K.
Puram
in
partnership
with
Delhi
Govt.
The
aim
of
GRC-SK
is
to
work
for
Women
upliftment
and
provide
social
welfare
entitlement
schemes
of
nine
government
departments
through
a
single
window
to
the
right
eligible
beneficiary.
